I used to attend two of them in my town - "Yunost" and "Tiraspol". At the moment both of them are closed. So, you should go to Chisinau to have a pleasant time, watching a movie... As for me, I was at cinema long ago, so I don't have associations with modern Dolby system and so on. I just remember "Tiraspol's" soviet screen and soviet seats of 1999, when I was there last time. Don't be surprised. :) Since those times it was rebuilt up to date. Not long ago I decided to visit it, waiting for a new film (one of the reasons I hadn't been there before is non-admission of most movies shown nowadays) - and was much surprised to see it closed. No cinema posters, no visitors... It made me upset. And as for "Yunost", they are building a nightclub there. So, the residents were left without a cinema.

But yes, the "New Region" tells some encouraging facts. The authorities are going to open "Tiraspol" by October. They have received president's order. Somebody from local web-source have even joked that it would be "Sheriff-cinema", but not "Tiraspol" anymore. But in fact, I hope it will open. It should.

Government.

Today, on my way to the shop, I found an interesting paper in the mailbox. It was half-red, what immediately lead me to a conclusion - communists. An appeal to the nation. Then went a range of beautiful words, encouraging people to protest against current authorities. I'll cite some sentences:

"...Current government thinks of its own interests, first of all. All the richness of our state is concentrated in aristocracy's hands. They live without troubles - on the backs of people. <...> They try to persuade us that the origin of our poorness lies in the economic siege. And yes, our republic has some enemies. But why this siege hasn't touched those who have power and money?"

Further they advise people to gather in rallies of protest against unemployment, low wages and bureaucracy. The recent arrest of communists' opposition member is pointed out in the issue, they claim it as some actions, taken by authorities, who are afraid to lose their money. It's rather true, than false. Our president is like a local god. He's allowed to do everything, he has all the rights, sometimes he raises up pensions for a sum of one dollar - it's his gift to those, who built the republic and protected it. Nobody can speak of him negatively, like of Stalin or Lenin in the USSR. The difference between these personalities is their attitude to people. Some individuals call our state soviet-like, but this difference makes such propositions nonsense. Former leaders made some favors for soviet people - they really did. And our government does NOT.

Look at PMR's economy - what it has been taken to for these 15 years? Nothing was done to improve our conditions, or these changes are really insignificant. The republic is a huge monopoly, which rules the situation and the market. Some of Smirnov's family lead it, the authorities have a real idyll with "Sheriff". Nothing is done to make the market competitive, nothing is done to lessen "Sheriff's" power. It's not profitable for the government.

My friends from the big city told me: when you arrive in Pridnestrovie, you feel as if you had skipped ten years to the past. The capital is scuffed, they rebuild it in a lazy way. The street-lamps in the streets are lightened only when the time of election comes.

Today one engineer informed me - they plan to close "Electromash" plant in July (he read it in a newspaper, which can be hardly found at the newsstands for its approximation, in comparison with authorities' press - here's our liberty of speech), because import becomes limited. I consider, there's no reason to blame Moldavians in all the sins. If our government wanted to see the way out, it would take some actions. But the economic state is becoming worse and worse. Look - more than a half of the plants have been sold. My grandmother worked at Tkachenko plant, and now it has turned to ruins.

I see the only way in changing the government. But I don't believe the politicians at all. Who knows, if these communists aren't a new tyranny for our poor republic? Where's the guarantee we're not fooled again? This paper may be just a provocation to make people revolt, just a new governmental take-over, which can result in other deceivers' ruling.

However, we'll soon see, who's right.

This is the English version for my notes. I have already created a blog at LiveJournal.com, and have some writing practice. This one is aimed to post information mostly about the land where I live, to show my readers the insight into everything I see around. But there would be some exceptions, of course.

Opinions, posted here, are personal.
I like taking photos, so many of them are expected.
